Welcome to September!
My "team's" 1/2 marathon training started in the last two weeks and sadly one of our key playeourrs, sprained her ankle in our first 10k :(
We had a great route starting at the monkey bars on Marina Blvd. then over the Golden Gate Bridge and back to the monkey bars. It ended up being 13.64 k (thank you for the precision Nike+) and was a killer! The plan is to do 3 runs each week and meet up on weekends to do one big run. Unfortunately our injured team mate will have to sit on the bench for the next four weeks to heal.
But the lesson is...strength training is KEY and working up to longer distances has to be strategic. Injuries happen when you push yourself too hard to quickly...that's what training is for!
Next week I'm looking forward to the Dipsea trail. Fingers crossed for good weather!
